Sharon Hurrell – Maternity Support Practitioner

Sharon Hurrell - Maternity Support Practitioner

Hi am Sharon, I am a mother to 4 children and granny to 2 young grandsons.

Having previously worked in the Kings Lynn Maternity unit, I returned to work as a Maternity Care Worker at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital 9 years ago after completing my own family. I have a passion for breastfeeding but also empowering new mums on their journey into motherhood.

During this period I also embarked on a voluntary role for HomeStart Norfolk. This gave me the opportunity to give help and encouragement to families with young children that needed support with various aspects of their early years experience.

I did the UNICEF breastfeeding course in 2014, followed by regular refreshers. I was given the opportunity 3 years ago to join the Infant Feeding Team at the NNUH, a role I feel very privileged to be given. This position has enabled me to give a high standard of support to women during those early days in hospital when its all very overwhelming. Although I offer specialist feeding support I often find one of the most valuable things I can offer is a friendly face and a listening ear.
During my time in this post I have completed the NNUH RLF (Tongue-tie) study day and the NNUH Keyworker Training.

I feel very passionate about empowering families in achieving their goals by encouraging and supporting in a completely non judgmental manner.
