Sian Aldis | IBCLC, BA(Hons), FdSc
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Holistic Sleep Coach & Mindful Breastfeeding Practitioner
Hi I’m Sian Aldis and I am the founder of No Milk Like Mama’s!
I am passionate about good quality, consistent and evidence based support for families.
I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), a Mindful Breastfeeding Practitioner and Holistic Sleep Coach. I have a Degree in Integrated Health & Social Care and am focused on family centred care, providing an holistic approach to the support I offer.
To be eligible to sit the qualifying IBLCE (International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners) exam I completed over 1000 clinical hours supporting breastfeeding women, study of 14 health science subjects and 90 hours of lactation specific training.
I have a First Class Honours Degree in Integrated Health and Social Care, a Foundation Degree with Distinction in Health Studies, a Higher Level Apprenticeship in Health and am a qualified Assistant Practitioner.
I have trained as a Mindful Breastfeeding Practitioner and use mindfulness tools in both my antenatal and postnatal work.
I have completed two Advanced Level (4 & 5) Open College Network (OCN) accredited sleep courses, including the Holistic Sleep Coaching Programme, which is the most in-depth gentle sleep training available with tuition from experts worldwide in infant sleep and behaviour. I provide Holistic Sleep Support to families by offering information on nurturing alternatives to Cry-It-Out and similar sleep training methods, along with understanding of what is normal for your child and ways to help you cope.
I am also insured as a Maternity Nurse/Nanny, providing additional practical support to families and enabling parents to get some rest and relaxation.
Having initially experienced difficulties breastfeeding my own children, I became aware of the benefits of breastfeeding support and the need for it to be easily accessible to women.
I originally trained as a volunteer with The Breastfeeding Network. I have since completed further training with UNICEF, the University of East Anglia (UEA), City College Norwich, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), BabyEm and the Holistic Sleep Training Programme. I worked as a Breastfeeding Practitioner within an award winning NHS Breastfeeding Team in Waveney and Great Yarmouth, gaining experience in a wide range of breastfeeding concerns.
Following the dissolution of this NHS service, I founded No Milk Like Mama’s to provide breastfeeding support that is available and accessible to all families.
I am pleased to be able to also offer my services voluntarily as a Breastfeeding Counsellor with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers via the National Breastfeeding Helpline (0300 100 0212).
Prior to having children, I worked in the legal profession and studied to become a Legal Executive. I was also a Registered Childminder before furthering my education in lactation.
I regularly undertake further training and education and this is a requirement of my certification as an IBCLC, to ensure I am up to date with new research and evidence based practice.
My goal is to make good quality Breastfeeding and sleep support accessible to all families.
I live in Norfolk with my husband who is a local farmer. We have 4 children and a menagerie of animals. I love my work and it is a privilege to support families at such an important time in their lives.

Luisa Lyons | IBCLC, RM, BSc (Hons)
Lactation Consultant, Registered Midwife & Tongue-tie Practitioner
Hi I’m Luisa, I am an experienced midwife, qualifying in 2001 and have worked in the NHS since the age of 18. I continue to work as a specialist midwife in Tongue-tie at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. I am also a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and qualified in 2006.
As a Lactation Consultant I support parents to be able to breastfeed their babies and also parents who require support with bottle feeding.
I was previously the Infant Feeding Lead at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and have many years of experience supporting parents with both breast and bottle feeding.
Outside of my private practitioner I continue to work within the NHS as a specialist Midwife and Tongue-tie Practitioner. I run NHS clinics every week to see babies that are referred to us with suspected restriction of their tongue causing feeding issues. My role also involves working with GPs and delivering training to practitioners.
As a mother of two, I know what it is like to feel overwhelmed and vulnerable after having a baby. It is such an intense time for both parents, especially when feeding is difficult. I love being able to be there for parents and to support them to feed their babies and ultimately make a difficult time a bit better for them.
I run a fortnightly free Breastfeeding Support Group in Dereham which you are welcome to attend and my clients can also access this for ongoing support.
What is an IBCLC Lactation Consultant?
An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is the highest level of breastfeeding support available and is an international qualification. An IBCLC has very specific training to offer this standard of support.
IBCLCs either come from a healthcare background (such as midwifery, like Luisa), or have to sit 14 health science related subjects before applying for the exam (as Sian did having started her breastfeeding support career as a volunteer Breastfeeding Supporter). They are required to complete 90 hours of lactation specific training and 1000 hours of clinical practice (ie. 1000 hours of experience supporting breastfeeding and breastfeeding mums) before being allowed to apply for the exam. The 4 hour IBCLE exam can then be applied for.
Once qualified IBCLCs are required to keep up to date with current research by completing ongoing training. They resubmit for their IBCLC certificate every 5 years with proof of attending 75 hours of training.
IBCLCs can support you with more complicated issues such as faltering growth, tongue tie assessment, breastfeeding problems, reflux, a non latching baby, as well as more straightforward breastfeeding support.
IBCLCs are also obliged to work according to the IBLCE Code of Professional Conduct and carry full professional insurance.
Please note that there are many people giving breastfeeding advice as a ‘Lactation Consultant” or “Breastfeeding Specialist” who do not have this high standard of training or regulation. When looking for quality breastfeeding support always make sure that they are an IBCLC and their license is still valid at the IBLCE registry.
