Lorna Hemmant | Breastfeeding Peer Supporter
Hi I’m Lorna! Mum to two scrummy boys, Thomas & Alfie (6 & 4), feeding them both for 18 months each. I very much enjoyed my positive experiences of breast feeding, especially all those precious cuddles.
Before children I worked as a community nutritionist for 6 years based in Great Yarmouth and Waveney after completing a MMedSci in Human nutrition from Sheffield University in 2006. I loved my role in this team, with a passion of working in early years. Much of my time was spent supporting the breast feeding team at breast feeding cafes and leading weaning talks to new mums within children centre settings. I also trained health professionals on the HENRY training and led family groups delivering their healthy lifestyle prospectus.
After a short spell in research into the link of type two diabetes and lifestyle at UEA/NNUH, I have returned back to community work. This time as a member of bank staff as part of Suffolk county council OneLife Suffolk team. Here I spend the majority of my time within schools promoting a healthy lifestyle through school groups, assemblies and family groups.
I very much have a passion for promoting healthy living within early years. I will begin my mother to mother breastfeeding peer support training in 2019 and am very excited to be joining the peer support team!
